Privacy policy
Last updated October 23, 2026. Dicktation (dicktation.com) is published by Bopito LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information is involved when you use the site and the dictation tool.
The short version
You don't need an account. We never receive your audio or the text you dictate. Your text is saved only in your own browser. To recognise speech, your browser uses its maker's speech service. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are useful.
The dictation tool
- Your text is stored in your browser's local storage on your device, so it survives a reload. It isn't sent to us. Clear it with the tool's Clear button or by clearing your browser's site data.
- Your audio is handled by your browser's built-in speech recognition. Depending on the browser and settings, the audio may be sent to the browser maker's speech service (Google for Chrome, Apple for Safari, Microsoft for Edge) to be converted into text. Their privacy policies apply to that processing. We don't receive the audio or the resulting text.
- Microphone permission is controlled by your browser. You can revoke it at any time in your browser's site settings.
- Usage events. If analytics is enabled, we record that the tool was started or stopped, how long a session lasted, which language was chosen, and whether you copied or downloaded text. These events never include what you said or wrote.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages and links people use. It collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, how you arrived, and the events described above. Google Analytics uses cookies, described in our cookie policy. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are off by default.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and delivered through Cloudflare. These services process technical data such as IP addresses and browser information to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, under their own privacy policies.
Links to other sites
Some links go to partner sites through dicktation.com/go/ (see our affiliate disclosure), and promotional images link to the Apple App Store. Once you leave Dicktation, the other site's privacy policy applies. Affiliate partners may set cookies on their own sites to record that you came from us.
How we use information
To understand which content is useful, improve the site and the tool, measure which recommendations and promotions work, and keep the site secure. We don't sell or rent personal information.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics data is kept for no longer than 14 months. Hosting and network logs are kept by those providers under their own policies.
Your choices and rights
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser, or use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you, or to object to how it's processed. Contact us using the details below.
- The site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
