The best dictation software for Windows

Windows voice typing (Windows + H) is free and works in any text box, but it needs internet. For dictation that cleans up as you talk, look at Wispr Flow, Aqua Voice or Typeless. For offline use, Spokenly or Superwhisper. Dragon Professional remains the choice for custom voice commands, at a much higher price.

Is Windows voice typing enough?

For emails, chats and documents, often yes, especially with Automatic punctuation turned on. On Copilot+ PCs, fluid dictation also removes filler words in English. Windows voice typing needs a connection, though, and it doesn't learn your vocabulary. That's where the paid apps help.

Dragon Professional in 2026

Dragon Professional v16 is still sold for Windows 10 and 11, but Nuance's site only offers "contact us" pricing. Retailers list it for around $699. Its cloud and mobile siblings are being wound down, and Dragon Anywhere stopped being sold in July 2026. If you're weighing it against newer apps, see Dragon alternatives.
